Building automation in architectural design — how to approach it with intention.

At the invitation of TEMA — the official GIRA representative in Poland — Intelidom Group joined a breakfast meeting for architects at the DŁUGA Showroom in Warsaw. The conversation covered how to plan building automation from the very first stage of design, and what to consider to make a smart home functional, elegant, and future-ready.

Building automation is most effective — and most invisible — when it is woven into a project from day one. Retrofitting smart systems after construction is possible, but it always means compromise: exposed conduits, fewer options, higher cost. The architects who attended this morning's meeting came to explore how to avoid exactly that.

The right questions at the right stage

Intelidom Group shared its perspective on what to define early — and what can safely be left flexible. Lighting scenes, climate zoning, audio, shading, security, and access control all interact. Getting the wiring topology and control bus right at the permit stage means every one of these systems can be added, changed, or upgraded later without opening walls.

“The smartest home is the one where the technology disappears into the architecture — and the only way to achieve that is to plan it together from the start.”

The venue itself made the point. DŁUGA Showroom in Warsaw is a space where materials, light, and technology coexist without friction — a live demonstration of what happens when design and engineering speak the same language from the outset. The morning format — relaxed, with good coffee and genuine conversation — made it one of the better professional exchanges of the autumn season.

Thank you to TEMA and GIRA for the invitation, and to every architect who came with sharp questions. If you are an architect working on a project and want to talk through automation — we are here.
